Overleaf Server Pro 4.0, Now with Git Integration

May 30, 2023

Git integration is now a part of Overleaf Server Pro with the 4.0 release. This highly requested feature is a powerful and flexible way to connect you, your collaborators, and your other research outputs/artifacts with your on-premises Overleaf project. Read more about Git for Overleaf

Important: You will need to upgrade to 3.5.6 and migrate your project history before upgrading to 4.0. If you do not complete the migration before upgrading to 4.0 you may encounter issues. Read more in this blog post about Server Pro 3.5.6.

What’s new?

In addition to the Git integration, the 4.0 release includes:

  • A new Source editor in addition to the Legacy editor will be available to users. (The Legacy editor will eventually be retired. If you have any feedback or issues, please fill out this form.)

    Source editor

    The new Source editor provides:

    • Enhanced Rich Text functionality – the underlying open source library that the new editor uses is uniquely able to handle both source code and rich text, allowing us to deliver a much improved Rich Text editor. These improvements include the recently introduced rich-text commenting and tracked changes feature.
    • Better accessibility – the new editor will give us the tools to work more effectively with assistive devices (such as screen readers), paving the way to make Overleaf more inclusive.
    • Better support for non-latin text – including mixing of right-to-left and left-to-right text and special characters (such as those with diacritics).
  • Support documentation for horizontal scaling, which allows for increased computing resources for large deployments.

  • Admins can turn on automatic cleanup of deleted projects and users after 90 days.

You can find further information in the official release notes.
